Blocks To The Flow of Love: Earth Signs

This is part of a series: Love in the zodiac.

Remember: “blocks” are the bricks on the path to awakening. We experience them as a sensation of distance / pain / separation. And they are gifts because that pain propels us toward connection! We understand our love through our experience of obstacles to it! This is why we need blocks - or I’m not sure if we need them, but we have them, so we might as well find the gift there.

With the Moon, Venus and Mars in Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn), assigning too much significance to the way things are right now is a block to love. What I mean is Earth signs tend to see things as they are. They see what is. They are realistic, which means they understand the work involved in making things happen. Their “love language” is doing tasks to help, getting things, making things, touch, physical support - participation is most real and meaningful to them when it shows up in the physical realm.

Earth signs (especially Virgo and Capricorn) can view emotions as an inconvenience or burden; emotions seem impractical, and they want to be practical, reasonable, and grounded in reality above all else. These are very useful things! Very key to understand the laws of earth as a body of earth on earth.

If we get too stuck on where someone is right now, a partner for example, it’s easy to get overly critical (Virgo and Capricorn) or defeated and stuck (Taurus). The flow of love can get blocked by the problems eclipsing the whole picture. The whole picture being a lifetime, a timeline, a future where things keep changing! The whole picture being people are at their best sometimes and sometimes not, people make mistakes, people are overwhelmed, etc etc. This applies especially to the flow of love to oneself.

There’s a tendency to overwork, to keep focusing on a problem and trying to solve it. But when one problem is solved, another arises, and there’s no stopping to notice that one was solved. When this tendency is in balance, it makes for a beautiful participant in relationships because the Earth person wants to improve in a very tangible way. When it’s out of balance they can either overwork into resentment and exhaustion, or freeze in stagnation out of fear of making a mistake.

Two melts to these blocks for earth signs is keeping connected to the future - we spend a lot of time thinking about the future but in a doomy kind of way - we throw our fear into the future. Here what I mean is cultivating the future. Trusting what we cannot see, praying into the dark that is the future, and remembering that love does not flow from hard work. Hard work can be one of the ways we show love but we notice and feel the flow of love when we slow down enough to perceive its presence.

The other melt is asking if we are looking at a big enough picture when we are considering what is practical. For example if we work a job that gives us money right now, which we need, that is practical. But if we do it so long and overwork so much that our bodies don’t function to do the job anymore, it’s not practical anymore. Sometimes we need to expand our awareness of the timeline to determine if something is truly practical, or the spacial / species awareness. It might be practical for me to get things done that I need to using fossil fuels in the immediate future, but it might not be practical for various other species, and therefore also not for me because I am dependent on those species for survival.

The key here is just to not get too certain about the reality of reality. Air teaches us there’s always another perspective on the matter, and Fire teaches us there’s always a new future to will into being, and Water teaches us feelings find a way no matter how impractical they are! When you’re stuck / blocked, checking in on how other elements (species) do things can help bring in something fresh.
