Parents and Gender Circle

27 February 2022 | 1-3pm PST

Join Stuart Getty and Sarah Fontaine for a circle on parenting and gender. This is two hours of facilitated space where you can reflect on your own relationship to gender, what stories you are sharing about gender with your children, and how as parents, we can practice becoming people our children never have to “come out” to. We’ll use guided meditation, journaling, and conversation as our methods of exploration.

Here’s an outline of how we’ll spend our time together:

  • Introductions

  • Intimacy with your own gender

  • Your experiences in childhood

  • Parenting and gender

  • Intentions for the future

This is a live zoom event, which will be recorded and available for one week after for you to watch if you can’t attend live.

Stuart Getty loves to dance, swim, skate, and explore ideas with a big heart. They work as a writer and strategist, but has been a creative director/copywriter and filmmaker for more than a decade. They have basically committed their whole life to the craft of the written word. And making people smile.

Their first book, "How to They/Them" all started with a film and the fact that everyone just wants to talk about they/them pronouns and all the ins and outs of gender identity. Stuart knew there was a need to be met, that people just had questions, and wanted to offer that space and vulnerability as a gift.

Sarah Fontaine is an astrologer, writer, facilitator, long time teacher and parent of an almost-3-year-old. Her teaching has included a preschool she ran in her house, high school classrooms of San Francisco and undergraduate wilderness education programs. In teaching and parenting she's especially focused on reducing the ageism that distorts how we understand children and therefore how we treat them. She has taught on writing, astrology, kayaking, food and water systems of California, and other subjects. Her current work foregrounds contemplative practice and astrology for healing and connecting with others. Sarah offers astrology readings, with an emphasis on relationships, including parent/child. She writes and teaches on the relationships between spirituality, embodiment, whiteness, love, parenting, politics and freedom. Learn more at existingtogether.com.
