a winter solstice reading on the full moon
with Miranda Mellis, Kelly Murphy, and Sarah Fontaine
8pm sharp (arrive early and roam the bookstore)
Miranda Mellis is the author of Demystifications (forthcoming, Solid Objects). Other books and chapbooks include The Instead, The Spokes, None of This Is Real, The Quarry and The Revisionist. She is an occasional columnist at The Logger. She has received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the John Hawkes Prize in Fiction and has been an Artist in Residence at the Headlands Center for the Arts and the Millay Colony. She co-founded and co-edited The Encyclopedia Project and teaches at Evergreen State College. Currently she is in training to become an interfaith, all faith, and no faith Buddhist chaplain.
Kelly Murphy is a midwife, keeper of stories, weaver of words, poetry and prayer. She writes to make meaning, hunt truth, tell archetypal story, to expose the language of internal rivers and cycles. She layers words as offerings to the otherworldly beauty witnessed as women bring life and babies take first breaths. She tends the ritual of birth of all kinds, including the ceremony of women’s stories in circle. Her first chapbook, still becoming, is poetry on her rite of passage to mother without a child on her hip. You can find little polaroids of her voice @womenborn. And her midwifery practice at womenborn.com.
Sarah Fontaine is a writer and astrologer who lives close to a beach on this planet. She writes horoscopes, breathing reminders, essays, guided meditations, weddings. Sometimes she publishes books and a magazine with her sister, at Carville Annex Press. She gives astrology readings, in person and remotely, for individuals, couples, and parents. She teaches energetic tools. She waters plants. All of the things she does are about suffering less and living as close to life as possible. Her biggest, latest project is attending to her body right now, while it is carrying a new human, set to come out in March. You can find more about all of this at existingtogether.com and @existingtogether.
